I wanted to inform you all that Herb Brown passed away on Thanksgiving night at the age of 88.
His work was pioneering and though he had a pedigree - studying with Max Beckmann at the Brooklyn Museum Art School and was a member of the scene that produced Pollock, de Kooning, and Kline, Herb lacked the skills of self-promotion that would have granted him distinction, and spent much of his life trying to promote his work in the ways he knew how. His life was truly colorful full of amazing characters, stories and art as was his personality, and his contributions to modern painting I think deserve a place in our memory.
